Kinuthia Wamwangi, EBS, is Embrace Country Director for Kenya. Formerly Chairman of the Transition Authority, a publicly prominent role facilitating and coordinating the transition to a new devolved system of government in Kenya, creating 47 new counties serving over 40 million Kenyans and assuming responsibility for key functions and services from central government. In this major and highly visible endeavour Kinuthia successfully applied his wisdom, academic achievements, and wide practical experience in local government, law, and devolution to effect a smooth and highly efficient (2013-2016)
He has worked as a lecturer, local government administrator and consultant, commencing his career in local government becoming Municipal Advocate of Thika Municipality, Assistant Town Clerk for the Mombasa Municipal Council, and then Town Clerk for Thika and Nyeri Municipal Councils. Kinuthia then became the first Personnel and Administrative Manager at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) before moving into the private sector as Human Resource Manager at CarnaudMetalBox. After a study break in the UK, he joined the Kenya School of Government (previously Kenya Institute of Administration – KIA) as a visiting lecturer in Local Government.
He was then engaged by the Municipal Development Partnership for Eastern and Southern Africa (MDPESA) in Harare, Zimbabwe which was responsible for a World Bank-supported decentralization initiative covering 25 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. He served as Senior Programme Officer in charge of Capacity Building, HIV/AIDS and Gender Mainstreaming. During this period he was seconded to the Afri-Cities Summit held in Nairobi in September, 2006, where he served in the capacity of Deputy Director.
He, thereafter, worked as an Independent Consultant in many capacities including working for the Inter-Ministerial Committee of the Government of Kenya on Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises for 3 years.
His role as a devolution consultant enabled many Non-State Actors to engage with government organs charged with writing the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and devolution laws.
Mr. Wamwangi holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nairobi and is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He also holds a Masters of Law (LLM) degree in Employment Law and Employment Relations from the University of Leicester, and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from the University of Manchester. He is undertaking his Doctoral studies in Leadership and Governance at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
He is a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K), Chairman, Board of Fellows of the Kenya Institute of Human Resource Management, and Fellow Kenya Institute of Management. He was decorated with the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) honours for exemplary service to the nation by the President of the Republic of Kenya in December 2013.
Mr. Kinuthia Wamwangi is the immediate former Chairperson of the Transition Authority.
