Janet leads Embrace communications at governmental and business levels introducing the Embrace programmes to senior politicians, leaders and decision makers applying her extensive knowledge of equality processes and programmes, and working experience in international markets.
Janet Mitton has many years’ experience in equality, diversity, and cohesion. As a successful businesswoman, Janet has been particularly effective in engaging with the private sector business community to promote the equality agenda and deliver change in the workplace which has benefitted many companies and their employees.
Multi-lingual, with a BA in European Studies, Janet held senior roles in international media, with a focus on pan African and pan Arab magazines published in Europe and the Middle East. She worked for several years in Paris and Kuwait, and launched international editions of leading pan-Arab news dailies, directing and coordinating international advertising sales teams. Over the time, she developed European advertising markets for these publications producing multi-million dollar advertising sales revenue. Appointed as advertising director East Africa for the International Herald Tribune based in Nairobi she produced the first ever full colour advertising supplement (tourism in Kenya) in an international newspaper in sub Saharan Africa.
As an SME owner in London, Janet achieved SME business champion status, receiving a series of awards for best practice in Work-Life Balance, as a pioneer for flexible working practices with a multi-ethnic workforce. She become SME champion to the Alliance of Employers for Work Life Balance and went on to receive awards as an employer for exemplary race equality practices in the workplace.
Janet worked with several government departments on a varied of schemes and projects to develop good equality working practices, guides and models for public and private sector employers, to improve equality and fairness in the workplace.
Janet led a research programme into equality practices of Local Authorities with their suppliers, and was a member of the Women and Work Commission project to develop a Gender Equality Indicator.
Currently Janet is responsible for high level PR engagement and is key to the development of international Equality Standard models and programmes for Embrace Africa, with particular reference to East African and Middle Eastern markets.
